If you can think of something connected to the terms public engagement or communications, I probably do it!
In the public engagement part of my job, I work closely with colleagues to formalise public engagement practice and procedures in the School. This has included developing a School PE strategy that has an evaluation framework aligned to it – this helps us plan what we do and measure if it successful or not. I work alongside public engagement colleagues and staff and students to deliver a programme of activity which includes events in the Dundee Womenβs Festival, MRC Festival of Research and Dundee Science Festival. This can range from helping to develop table top activities, full event organisation and providing training.
In the communications part of my job, I look after my School’s website and social media putting out news and stories. Sometimes this involves working with our University press office and can result in film crews such as the BBC and STV news filming in our labs. I often accompany and assist with filming taking place. One of the most recent exciting events was when our building got taken over by HBO to film for an episode of the tv series Succession! It was amazing to see behind the scenes in a Hollywood production!

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Friendly, kind, hard-working
What did you want to be after you left school?
Something in science.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Not really.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
As I was a teenager in the 90s, I would say Take That and Oasis (plus the solo careers of the members).
What's your favourite food?
I love food! I like trying loads of different cuisines. Sushi, Sunday Roast, Seafood....
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
1. To be able to teleport anywhere in the world so I could visit places quickly and easily. 2. The weeks be longer so there could be more weekend days. 3. Never have to fly economy class again (though if I could teleport, this would be unnecessary)!
Tell us a joke.
What's brown and sticky? A stick!
What don't you like about your current job?
Writing risk assessments for activities and events (they are very important but not the most fun thing to do)!
