My name is Gaia. I am originally from Italy, currently living in Berkeley, near to San Francisco, California (United States). I have done my studies first in London and I have obtained my PhD in Genetics and Genomics from the University of Southampton (UK). The things that I love are genetics, travelling, pizza, reading nice books, going to the movies, and singing out loud!

Genomic variation is responsible for numerous rare diseases, propensity for many common traits, drug response, and is a key characteristic of cancer development. At present, our ability to characterize and understand genetic differences far exceeds our capacity to interpret it either for basic research understanding or for clinical diagnosis. The Critical Assessment of Genome Interpretation (CAGI) will provide an evaluation of the current state of the art and help promote progress in understanding genomic variation.
