Hi, I’m Stacey and I’m an Aersopace Engineering graduate who served as a Royal Air Force Engineering officer for 8 years. I live and work in Newcastle Upon Tyne, a stones throw away from the beach. When I’m not working I spend my time with Dave, my Cavapoo dog (he looks like a teddy bear) and Keith, my husband (not as cute). Hobby wise, I love snowboarding, surfing and travelling.  I have visited over 20 different countries but would go back to Peru and Australia.  I could eat a Pepperoni pizza, at any time and I love watching drama series like Big Bang Theory, Line of Duty and Suits.

I provide Surface Engineering for extreme environments. What is Surface Engineering? I help stop engineering components from failing by making sure the surface can withstand the environment it is used in. Â My current project is managing the application of a coating to the Navy’s Aircraft Carriers which allows F-35B fast jets to land vertically on the ship.

I check in at the office and with the team, we discuss how coating application is going, talk and solve any problems and set the schedule for the day. Then I answer emails/telephone calls from customers. Â We talk about potential uses for surface engineering on their products and what solutions we could offer. I will review drawings and material types to decide on the correct Surface Engineering to offer the customer. The projects produces a lot of samples, which are used to check the coating is being applied correctly, I spend a few hours of my day checking these samples. Â Some days I attend engineering reviews, where we review the coatings. Â We might talk about the application method, the structure of the coating or trials data. Â I also spend a lot of time travelling to customer sites to review products and surface engineering solutions.
