There are always things that you have to do at work that you don’t enjoy, but you get over it since the interesting stuff should outweigh the bad stuff. I don’t think that I’ve ever disliked a job, but there have certainly been times when I’ve wanted a different job (usually just before I started looking for one).
I mostly worked in the NHS and that’s about delivering outcomes in settings that you can’t control… more like engineering or production than academic science.
Disliked parts of it lots of times.
Twice because the commuting got me down.
Often because personal and departmental conflicts stopped us getting the best outcomes (as defined by me!)
Once because I was overloaded. So I started going home at 1700 and built a car.
…
But I’d make the same big choices if I had to start all over again.
