I think that it is quite common for a university to ask for a certain number of grades A-C. It does vary depending on which university you might look to apply to though!
A levels are important but they might look at GCSEs if they have two students and only one place available. The better you can do the easier it should be. Having said that, most admission tutors will also look at staements and other informaiton but you might as well be on the safe side!
Depends on your subject area. For quite some time, universities, employers etc. will look at your latest qualification in maths and potentially in English as well. So if you haven’t done AS or A level maths, they will look at that one.
Otherwise, it’s unusual for them to consider your GCSEs as far as I know.
Depending on your degree field they may ask you for your Maths and English Language GCSE and if you are applying for a STEM subject they may ask you for your science grade but A-Levels and their equivalents are always asked for.
