So for me work is very different to school or college. I work in a big team of people working together.
If we are doing work before we go and build something or release information to our customer we check the work to make sure the person doing the work hasn’t messed up the equations. This is all part of the plan. We know what we do is really difficult and that people can make mistakes. There’s no embarrassment or blame because people make mistakes. If there is a mistake we correct it and help the person to learn.
Work for me is a positive place for collaboration and trying to solve difficult problems. We help each other.
You can measure concentration of electrolytes in body fluids either with or without dilution. The factors which can make the results misleading differ between those. I systematically get this wrong in my head. But now I know that I do, and it’s easy to look up the correct answer.
As Andy says: collaboration is a great way of making sure that nothing serious happens as a result of a mistake.
Everyone makes mistakes sometimes! But usually you work in a team and everyone helps out when something goes wrong. The most important thing is admitting your mistake as soon as you realise so it can be fixed as soon as possible. People don’t mind and honest mistake, but its really annoying when you discover someone tried to cover up their mess.
Yes. Sometimes it takes someone outside the team to ask a question and make you realise you’re working with the wrong thing. I don’t feel too embarrassed by these things now though, it’s just human mistakes, it pays to be honest and ask for help.
