Thank you for your question! When I was about 7 or 8, I decided I wanted to get a PhD and do research into science. I have changed my mind several times over the years about which areas of science I want to work in, but I’ve always wanted to do this job.

The term “Research Fellow” just refers to where the money comes from that pays the University for my salary. Some people are called “Research Associate” and others “Research Fellow”. Then when you’ve been doing it a few years, you might get paid a bit more and become a “Senior Research Fellow” and then it depends on whether you do mostly teaching, or mostly research or a fairly even split.

I’m pretty lucky at the moment as I have a lot of time to focus on the research that I want to do (which will be more useful for me later down the line), and I don’t have a big teaching workload.
