It was for me. And I only ended up deciding in the last year of the undergraduate degree.

To be honest I think I am still deciding. I enjoy the work that I do and so as long as I continue to enjoy it I will keep researching, but I have lots of other things I am interested in like technology and teaching. I knew from a young age that I loved science so I just kept picking the option that interested me most and that led me to become a researcher. When I was in school I had no idea about what being a researcher meant so I never worry too much about having to stay in one job forever because there are probably lots of exciting jobs out there that I could do and have no idea exist yet!

Not really. Although I have gone into what ever i thought was next rather than thought too hard about things, I always knew that this is what I’m good at. You can be surprised though. i lecture to students and I didnt think I would be very good at it (I’m quite shy and there are 200 of them all staring at me!) but it turns out its actually good fun. The paperwork side of it though is very boring

It was very easy for me. I love science and have always wanted to be on the cutting edge – being the first to find out the new stuff.

No – I followed what I was interested in – in my case using math skills in a biological area and the pieces fell into place.
