I found that housing rats in large cages with lots of toys helps them to be more confident and learn new things quicker than when they are housed in smaller cages. Sounds really obvious doesn’t it? BUT it is a really hard thing to prove. Now we have some strong proof, hopefully it will make laboratories (and pet shops) provide better housing for their rats. Animal behaviour is a great science to study and there is soooooo much more to learn. The more we learn and understand, the more we are able to improve the lives of animals in our care.

This is a great questions but unfortunately I don’t have a good answer yet! The experiment I work on is going to be running for 10 years in total, so although we don’t need to wait the full 10 years to see results, it takes a few years at least.I’m analysing lots of my data now from the last 2 years so I am hoping I will see something exciting in that!
