Hi, the charity work that I do is related to a thing called lobbying. Lobbying is where you try to influence changes in laws, making new laws or putting pressure on the government to apply the law properly. I am not an expert at politics so the role I play is as a scientific adviser, so when we lobby MPs in the government I go along and explain the science behind what we are asking for. I have recently been working on a new fisheries bill, so it is a law to manage fishing, and what i want to make sure is that the new law protects our environment and makes sure that fishing isn’t causing damage but also that it allows fishers to do their job. I spend time all over Europe talking to different governments and trying to protect our seas through better management.

Outside of my job I am also a STEM ambassador and so do outreach charity work talking about science and trying to encourage people to enjoy science even if they have never studied it before.
