• Question: What was the first step in reaching your career?

      I don’t count my undergraduate degree really because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, only that I liked science. I think it was when I did my first research project during my Masters in Neuroscience. I took home a big textbook on the brain and would read it obsessively. Then I really knew that I found the brain fascinating and wanted to do everything I could to get good marks and make sure I could keep learning more. That set me on the track to become a researcher myself.

    Deciding I wanted to do science! I remember at about 7 I knew I wanted to be a scientist – I think this is the first step!

    The first ACTIVE step, I guess, was doing some work experience. I think I was about 14 when we did work experience week at school. I arranged to do this at a physics research department in Reading – that was the first active thing I did towards my career.
