Yes indeed – I’m working with wideband subsea acoustic digital communications and software developers on a daily basis at Sonardyne.

Most definitely! We just wouldn’t be able to look at the smallest building blocks in the universe (particle physics) without digital tools!

Overwhelmlingly. The field of human-computer interaction where I worked is in fact concerned with how to best design digital tools.

Not with me directly as I work in a biomedical science lab, however I produce slides for pathologists to help diagnose patients, and the diagnostic side of our work is becoming more and more digital. We scan slides and use virtual microscopes to save time sending slides through the post and holding up patient treatment. Digital pathology is on the increase as it really benefits the patients. Here’s a link to an amazing virtual microscope and hopefully just by looking at a few cases you can see how important it is that consultant pathologists can instantly get second or expert opinions rather than wait a few weeks for slides to be sent through the post.

Yes, I rely on computers to perform our statistical analysis. We use a specialised statistical software, which requires use to write code to perform our analysis – we call this statistical programming. I also rely on my computer daily to communicate with clients and my internal team via email and web-based meetings. I work with people all over the globe so we often use instant messaging and video chats to connect as it would be too much hassle to arrange all meetings in person!
