Experience is everything in any career, the question is how to get some when you’re starting out. If your school or college allow you do work experience then this is a great place to start; find a company that work in the field you are interested in, ask if they offer work experience placements and if they have any places. You can do this during the summer holidays if your school won’t support the initiative. Consider an apprenticeship scheme; you earn as you learn and will gather up lots of valuable experience as you go. If you’re planning to go to uni look out for graduate apprenticeship schemes or other things like EDT’s Year In Industry scheme where you take a structured year out between a levels and degree. In short, the minimum experience is ANY and you should be looking for every opportunity to get some. It will help you both start your career and help you choose the path of your career.
