• Question: How would I become a helicopter paramedic? Would I have to do a degree in medicine and a paramedics degree? I am already in St.Johns cadets, and know how to do basic first aid. What would I need to progress to do???

Wow what a great career option. Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) have a few medics associated with them like doctors, nurses, paramedics and pilots. As you’re interested in being a paramedic with the HEMS team you would firstly need to become a paramedic then from there you would need to complete a course to become a HEMS paramedic. Each area of the country is covered by different air ambulance services so it might be worth contacting your local air ambulance to see the specifics such as length of service as a paramedic before training for HEMS.

Good luck, hope this information helps. Well done and keep up the great work you are doing with St Johns.
