When I was younger my parents definitely supported me lots! When I found Chemistry hard at school they took me to after school tuition or when I didn’t know what university to pick they came with me to look at them. This helped to shape me and point me along my path. Now that I am a older, my boyfriend (who is also a scientist) helps me a lot with my career. We often talk science at dinner and ponder over questions together, which makes my career feel like a really big part of my life.

Lots of people have. It’s really useful to be able to ask lots of people for advice. Any opportunity you get, just talk to people about your interests and get their thoughts on what you can do to put yourself ahead of the rest. A couple of professors and mentors have really helped me along the way, and I’m always chatting to new people.

My mom was always my biggest cheerleader. I had a great biology teacher at school. I had great friends who were fellow biostat grad students who were facing the same challenges. Since working, my two great mentors have been Roy Anderson (epidemiologist) and David Cox (statistician). I’ve also been lucky to work with some other amazing colleagues.
